Chapter: “A Signal from Nowhere”
It starts with a signal from a moon believed to be empty. Zix, a tiny lime-green cosmic surveyor, has crash-landed while investigating a strange disturbance around the human star. The impact scatters his pod's crystalline power cells across the surface, leaving heat, communications, shields, navigation and thrusters offline.
Zogo, a human astronaut leading a long-range survey beyond Earth, is the first to catch the repeating distress signal and changes course to investigate. Bloop, Zix's deadpan, over-precise robot, translates the signal and identifies every damaged system. Each recovered crystal repairs one part of the craft — but the final reading reveals that the Sun's connection to the Grid is beginning to fail.
