This Privacy Policy explains how QuestX, a project of Math Make Smart, collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use the QuestX website and competition (the “Services”). Because QuestX is used by children, protecting young people's information is central to how we operate.
Math Make Smart is the data controller for personal information processed through QuestX (“we”, “us”, or “our” — Math Make Smart LLC in the United States and Math Make Smart Ltd in the United Kingdom). For privacy questions, or to exercise your rights, contact us at quiz@questx.mathmakesmart.com.
We collect only what we need to run the competition:
QuestX is intended for students in Years 3 to 10, who are minors. We take particular care with their information and design our processes around adult-mediated registration:
Where a school registers students, the school confirms that it is authorised to provide that information and to act on behalf of parents as permitted by applicable law. If you believe a child's information has been provided to us without proper authorisation, contact us at quiz@questx.mathmakesmart.com and we will delete it.
We use personal information to:
Where the UK or EU GDPR applies, we rely on: the performance of a contract (to register and run the competition); your consent (for certain communications and cookies, which you can withdraw); our legitimate interests (to operate, secure, and improve the Services); and compliance with legal obligations.
A core part of QuestX is recognition. Rankings and leaderboards may publicly display a participant's first name, year group, school, and country. Certificates likewise show the participant's name and achievement. If you would prefer a participant's name not to appear on a public leaderboard, contact us at quiz@questx.mathmakesmart.com and we will discuss available options.
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here — for example to run the competition, issue and verify certificates, maintain historical rankings, and meet legal, accounting, and tax obligations — after which we delete or anonymise it. Specific retention periods can be provided on request.
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit (SSL/TLS), to protect personal information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to address any incident promptly.
QuestX operates across several countries, and information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Where we transfer information internationally, we put appropriate safeguards in place as required by applicable law.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal information, to object to certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Where applicable (for example under the UK/EU GDPR or U.S. state privacy laws), you may also have the right to complain to a data protection regulator. To exercise any right, contact us at quiz@questx.mathmakesmart.com. As information is usually provided by a Registering Adult, we may ask them to make requests on a student's behalf and to verify their identity.
Our website may link to third-party sites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date shows when it last changed, and material changes will be posted on the QuestX website.
