Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 June 2026 · Effective date: [insert launch date]

This Privacy Policy explains how QuestX, a project of Math Make Smart, collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use the QuestX website and competition (the “Services”). Because QuestX is used by children, protecting young people's information is central to how we operate.

01

Who is responsible for your information

Math Make Smart is the data controller for personal information processed through QuestX (“we”, “us”, or “our” — Math Make Smart LLC in the United States and Math Make Smart Ltd in the United Kingdom). For privacy questions, or to exercise your rights, contact us at quiz@questx.mathmakesmart.com.

02

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the competition:

  • Registering Adult details — the name and email address of the parent, guardian, or school coordinator who registers a student, and (for schools) the school name, role, and country.
  • Student details — the student's first name, year group, and country. We do not require a student's personal email address; competition communications go to the Registering Adult.
  • Payment information — processed by our payment providers (Stripe and PayPal). We receive confirmation of payment and limited transaction details, but not full card numbers.
  • Competition data — quiz responses, scores, results, rankings, and certificates.
  • Technical and usage data — information such as device type, browser, and how the website is used, collected through cookies and similar technologies.
03

Children's privacy

QuestX is intended for students in Years 3 to 10, who are minors. We take particular care with their information and design our processes around adult-mediated registration:

  • students are registered by a parent, guardian, or authorised school coordinator, not by themselves;
  • we collect only limited student information (first name, year group, country) and do not ask children for personal email addresses;
  • all account and competition communications are sent to the Registering Adult; and
  • we handle children's information in line with applicable laws, including the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the “children's data” provisions of the UK and EU GDPR.

Where a school registers students, the school confirms that it is authorised to provide that information and to act on behalf of parents as permitted by applicable law. If you believe a child's information has been provided to us without proper authorisation, contact us at quiz@questx.mathmakesmart.com and we will delete it.

04

How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • register students and schools and process payments;
  • deliver the competition, including issuing exam links, scoring entries, and generating certificates and rankings;
  • communicate with Registering Adults — for example confirmations, reminders, and results;
  • provide support and respond to enquiries;
  • maintain the security and integrity of the competition, including detecting and preventing cheating and fraud; and
  • improve the Services and meet our legal obligations.
06

How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share it only as needed to run QuestX, with:

  • Payment processors — Stripe and PayPal, to take payment securely.
  • Examination platform — our online exam and proctoring provider, to deliver the quiz and verify integrity.
  • Email and communications providers — to send confirmations, reminders, and results.
  • Professional advisers and authorities — where required by law, or to protect our rights, users, or the integrity of the competition.

These providers act on our instructions and are required to protect the information they handle.

07

Public leaderboards and certificates

A core part of QuestX is recognition. Rankings and leaderboards may publicly display a participant's first name, year group, school, and country. Certificates likewise show the participant's name and achievement. If you would prefer a participant's name not to appear on a public leaderboard, contact us at quiz@questx.mathmakesmart.com and we will discuss available options.

08

Cookies and similar technologies

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to make it work, remember preferences, and understand how it is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect how the website functions. Where required, we will ask for your consent to non-essential cookies.

09

Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here — for example to run the competition, issue and verify certificates, maintain historical rankings, and meet legal, accounting, and tax obligations — after which we delete or anonymise it. Specific retention periods can be provided on request.

10

Data security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit (SSL/TLS), to protect personal information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to address any incident promptly.

11

International transfers

QuestX operates across several countries, and information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Where we transfer information internationally, we put appropriate safeguards in place as required by applicable law.

12

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal information, to object to certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Where applicable (for example under the UK/EU GDPR or U.S. state privacy laws), you may also have the right to complain to a data protection regulator. To exercise any right, contact us at quiz@questx.mathmakesmart.com. As information is usually provided by a Registering Adult, we may ask them to make requests on a student's behalf and to verify their identity.

14

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date shows when it last changed, and material changes will be posted on the QuestX website.
